Concert poster collector Scott Mussell is seeking an original first printing of this 1978 Warren Zevon poster advertising his appearance at the Austin Opera House in Austin, Texas. “I love Zevon and this poster is truly outrageous capturing the decadence of the era in a special way” Mussell says. The poster was created by artist Danny Garret an Austin legend and features a sunset with silhouette depiction of a headless Thompson gunner and Werewolf, inspired by Zevon’s hit song “Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner” and “Werewolves Of London”, and a classic late 70s image of the legendary singer songwriter. “Garret used several type faces for the text giving it an odd updated Victorian style and, at least to me, screams late 70s” Mussell states. The poster, printed on thin cardstock, advertises a concert June 2, 1978 at the notable Austin venue and only a few months after Zevon released his second album “Excitable Boy”. “He was one of the hottest new acts at the time. This would have been a killer time to see him- right at his apex” Mussell says adding “I’m sure his performance was every bit as outrageous as the poster is!” If you have an original printing of the poster Mussell is offering $250 to preserve an example in his collection. Contact him at 515.707.7250 or at srmussell@me.com for details.
